Fiesta Island Time Trial

Fiesta Island Time Trials is San Diego's original time trial series since 1998, sponsored by San Diego Bicycle Club. Fiesta Island is a fast, flat course and will be closed to traffic during the event (no cars).

Registration

Register online at on WebScorer.com.

Registration closes on the Thursday before a race held on Saturday, and the Friday before a race held on Sunday.

Register more than 10 days before registration closes for the early bird fee.

Register for 2, 3 or all 4 events to get an additional discount. The more events and the earlier you register, the bigger the discount. Online registration is your best deal. Registration fees the day of the race will be the regular online fee plus $10.

Start

The sign-in table opens at 0600 the day of the race. Pick up your number by 0645. If registering the day of the event, to save time, print, sign, and bring your waiver to the sign in table. The day of registration closes at 0645.

The event starts promptly at 0700 US Pacific, rain or shine! An air horn at the start line will announce the beginning of the event. Riders start every 30 seconds. A start list will be published the day before the race. Riders should report to the start 5 minutes before your start time.

Course

Fiesta Island is as flat as it gets. There is no more than 10 feet of rise on the course per lap. All riders, except young juniors, do three laps on the 'long' course to complete a distance of 20k, or six laps to complete a distance of 40k.

The course is closed to traffic and the event is “car-free”.

The complete list of the rules is listed here. Helmets are required. Absolutely no drafting. If passing another rider, announce your intentions. No follow vehicles are allowed.

Directions to the event

From Interstate I-5, exit Sea World Drive. Sea World Drive is approximately 5 miles north of downtown San Diego. Go west on Sea World drive to the first signal. Turn right on Mission Bay Drive and take an immediate left to enter the island. Parking and registration are on the right before you enter the island.

Fiesta Island Time Trial Rules

FINISH

All racers must come through the chute at the finish house to complete the race. Be sure to call out your number when approaching the finish line. You may not cool down on the island after finishing.

NUMBER PLACEMENT

Number should be placed on the right side, and parallel to the body as shown in the photo to the right. There are several photographs below the rules which also dipict the proper way to place you numbers. See the FITT Photographs section below

SAFETY

Helmets are always required while on the bike. Absolutely no drafting. If passing another rider, announce your intentions. No following vehicle allowed.

RULES FOR FIXIE

Fixed gear, bicycle must have a brake and you must wear a helmet.

RULES ON CATEGORIES

Except juniors, all USAC and ABR licensed racers under the age of 35 should sign up in designated racing categories.

All USAC and ABR licensed master racers over the age of 35 can choose to race either in age categories or racing categories.

Except for the Merckx Category, all non licensed racers should race in age categories.

Team time trials are available in every race either as two person or four person TTT. These are open categories, with no age and gender restrictions, 20K or 40K available.

FITT SERIES RULES

  • Only top six finishers in each category qualify for series points

  • Points for top six finishers are: 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

  • One must have raced at least twice in the SAME category within the series

  • The qualified category should have minimum THREE racers in the series

  • Tie breakers:

    • Racer who has most higher finishes wins.

    • If still a tie, Racer who places higher finish in the latest race wins

  • You must be present at the last race to claim prize
