Do you shop at Amazon.com? If so, it's easy for you to help SDBC receive donations from Amazon to SDBC. Just use the
"Amazon Smile” charitable process in your account. Amazon Smile funnels a small percentage of their eligible purchase
revenue to SDBC if you activate Amazon Smile in your account and choose “San Diego Bicycle Club” as the
beneficiary nonprofit. Instead of
logging in through "amazon.com" you log-in through “smile.amazon.com.” Very easy to use. It is EXACTLY the same shopping experience.
Nothing changes except SDBC receives contributions from Amazon. | | Membership Join SDBC or renew your membership online. Visit the

Selle Italia SLR C59 Saddle Like new--used once. Came with new bike but replaced it with my old saddle. Where available, looks like it retails for $494.99 - $599.99. Will consider all reasonable offers but hope it goes to someone (maybe SDBC racer) who will actually use it and not just resell it. Email: jwollrabe@gmail.com

It’s Barrio Logan Grand Prix Time Again!
June 26th, 2021 |
|
The 24th annual Barrio Logan Grand Prix is on for 2021. That means your favorite bike club NEEDS your help. We have over 100 volunteer slots to be filled throughout race week. Let’s get out there and make this a great event. You can choose more than one job, or cover 2 time slots of the same job.
SDBC will be following whatever San Diego County health guidelines are in place on race day.
There will be a Thank You PARTY for all volunteers sometime following the event.
Here is the link to sign up.
https://www.volunteersignup.org/HQRRK
Here is a little information on some of the jobs.
*Set up and tear down-bring work gloves, no flip flops.
*Truck drivers-for a large and a small box truck. You will drive the course to distribute/pick up equipment around the course. You drive, helpers handle equipment. Would be great if there were one driver for each truck who can do both set up and tear down.
*Registration-sit down job, we have chairs for you. You may want a hat and sunscreen.
*Kid’s Race Director-oversee kid’s race workers, put together age group markers.
*Kid’s Race Workers-corral your age group racers and send them off on their race.
*Prize Presenter-hand out primes and prizes to racers, a mostly sit down job.
*Chief Course Marshal-keep track of and assign course marshals to their corners. Sunscreen, hat and a chair if you want to sit.
*Hospitality-walk the course with a wagon or rolling ice chest to deliver snacks to volunteers, race officials.
*Announcer Assistant-do whatever announcer needs, fetch and deliver race start lists.
*Equipment pick up-assist in loading trucks, work gloves helpful. Exact location will be provided.
*No Parking Sign Placement-meet in Barrio Logan, will provide exact location, follow truck around course and place signs. Work gloves helpful.
*Help Load Trucks-loading trucks for delivery to race course. Location will be provided. Work gloves helpful.
I know some of you will have questions, so feel free to contact me.

SDBC Red, White and Brew 4th of July Holiday Ride |
|
Join us for our 4th of July ride and picnic, SDBC Red, White BREW! The ride starts at 9:00 am from Nobel Park, a mere 1.8 miles down Nobel from UCC. There is lots of parking, restrooms at the picnic area, and plenty of covered seating
This is a new route designed by Tony Lowery. There will be 2 ride routes rolling out at 9:00 AM. First will be 26 miles w/1,788 ft of climbing at a moderate D3 kind of pace, 15-20 miles an hour on the flats. And a second route of 35 miles w/2,772 ft of climbing and a faster pace like a D1 ride, 18-23 mph on the flats. Strava links for both routes and additional event information are posted here here
Both rides will return to Nobel Park for a BBQ picnic prepared by Pat Murray as she has done for so many previous years. There will be vegetarian burgers as well for those who prefer.
Free picnic for SDBC members and a moderate $20 for non-members. (It's cheapest opportunity to join the Club.) Sorry, there will not be any brew this year as city parks do not allow us to serve alcohol. There will be plenty of soft drinks.

Community Engagement Survey |
|
The San Diego Bicycle Club is a 75-year old not-for-profit California corporation. It became a 501(c)(3) charitable organization as recognized by the IRS in December 2015. In its By-laws, SDBC has a written non-discriminatory policy, which states:
“All activities shall be nonsectarian and nondiscriminatory against any person by reason of race, color, national origin, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, genetic characteristics, or physical or mental disability.”
In July 2020 Board member Esther Walker, made a presentation to the Board of Directors requesting a working group be created to identify ways to reduce the barriers for people wanting to get into the sport of cycling. The Board agreed unanimously, and a working group was created.
At its September 2020 meeting a presentation was made by Esther and the working group. Directors unanimously agreed it was in the best interest of the Club and the community to expand cycling opportunities to a broader, more diverse audience. The working group recommended, and the Directors agreed, a different approach should be taken when evaluating SDBC events, programs, and its organization as a whole, saying it’s important to ask what barriers might keep people away, rather than assuming our good intentions are enough to make our activities equitable, diverse, and inclusive. The position of Community Engagement Director was created from an unfilled existing public relations position. Hilary Murdock was nominated, and Directors appointed her to that position. Hilary was elected to that position at the Annual Meeting of the Members in December 2020.
The Community Engagement Director and SDBC’s Community Engagement Working Group has prepared the following survey: https://data4us.wufoo.com/forms/sdbc-feedback/
Your thoughtful consideration is most appreciated.
