SDBC Weekly Update

Amazon Smile

Do you shop at Amazon.com? If so, it's easy for you to help SDBC receive donations from Amazon to SDBC. Just use the "Amazon Smile” charitable process in your account. Amazon Smile funnels a small percentage of their eligible purchase revenue to SDBC if you activate Amazon Smile in your account and choose “San Diego Bicycle Club” as the beneficiary nonprofit.

Instead of logging in through "amazon.com" you log-in through “smile.amazon.com.” Very easy to use. It is EXACTLY the same shopping experience. Nothing changes except SDBC receives contributions from Amazon.

    From the President
San Diego Bicycle Club Saturday Rides Restart April 17th

In just 9 days we’ll be rolling again! In the beginning there’ll be some changes to how we do things. We hope to be back to near-normal by June 15th, the date Governor Gavin Newsom has set for the “full reopening” of California.

Initial changes include staggered rollouts, masks, and social distancing. And at least for the first week or two - maybe longer - UC Cyclery will be closed so expect no drinks, bananas, or restrooms.

Training Director Charlie Sykes has the specifics below. He’ll tell you the “whats,” and now I‘ll tell you the “whys.”

Everyone MUST understand this: COVID-19 is still with us; it is still killing people. Yes, things ARE getting better: our infection, death, and hospitalization rates are way, way down from 10 weeks ago, the County’s in the Orange tier, and the California Department of Public Health has listed outdoor biking as a permitted activity at all tier levels because of it’s low risk of contact.

Things can keep improving if we’re all smart, and think about those around us. The rollout guidelines help us do that. That’s reason #1.

Reason #2 is that we’re guests in the La Jolla Village Square parking lot. Large groups of cyclists milling around can be a problem for the shopping center, as well as for Dave and the team at UC Cyclery. We’re staggering the rollouts to prevent this. You can help by not showing up more than 20 minutes before your rollout time. If you drove, please stay by your car/truck. If you rode in, please avoid large groups. LISTEN for instructions from the Training Director.

There will NOT be a single, mass announcement period before rollout. When the Training Director calls your group’s rollout time…ROLL OUT! (Roll out means move out onto the streets; it does NOT mean “gather round.”)

We know some of you are not yet ready for group rides. And we know others who are but will only ride with people wearing face coverings, people they know, or with those who have been vaccinated. Whatever you need to do to stay safe we support. We believe there will organically be subgroups rolling out on Saturday mornings. (We aren’t organizing these subgroups, which is why they’re “organic.” And they won’t have ride leaders assigned to them.) We encourage you to find a group you feel comfortable with. Again - you are responsible for you. Do what you need to do.

By working together, and with your understanding and cooperation, we can smoothly restart our rides.

    Thank you!

    Mike

    Our Rollouts are Changing

    Here’s How...

    Be Smart & Considerate

If you are sick or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 - STAY HOME.

If you’re coughing and/or sneezing - STAY HOME.

    In the parking lot

Masks and social distancing are required.

    Do not form large groups.

Stay by your cars/trucks until instructed to form your group.

Take your mask with you on the ride and use it when appropriate.

Do not crowd around the Union Bank ATM or the entrance of UCC.

Staggered Rollouts ~ Listen for instructions and countdown times.

Arrive no more than 20 minutes before your rollout time.

The A, B, and C Rides will start rolling out at 8:20.

Development Rides will begin rolling out at 8:35.

When your rollout time is called, ROLL OUT!

Complete guidelines can be found on our website: https://www.sdbc.org/20210406-guidlines-for-restarting-saturday-rides
