Do you shop at Amazon.com? If so, it’s easy for you to help SDBC receive donations from Amazon to SDBC. Just use the “Amazon Smile” charitable process in your account. Amazon Smile funnels a small percentage of their eligible purchase revenue to SDBC if you activate Amazon Smile in your account and choose “San Diego Bicycle Club” as the beneficiary nonprofit.
Instead of logging in through "amazon.com" you log-in through “smile.amazon.com.” Very easy to use. It is EXACTLY the same shopping experience. Nothing changes except SDBC receives contributions from Amazon. |

Saturday Route Update |
|
Several weeks ago we were forced to take a detour from our usual route. Many riders liked that it was a quicker route to the top of the bike path, so we kept using it for a few weeks to see if it was a good option. While it has some benefits, there are a few drawbacks including the steep hill and the mixing of bikes with cars and buses in the single northbound lane approaching La Jolla Village Dr.
Starting this upcoming Saturday, we are returning to our traditional Noble Dr./Regents Rd. start to the rides.
Please contact me with any questions.

A Note From the Training Director |
Monthly Skills
Training Clinic on April 6th |
Lee Driver--SDBC Life Member, longtime Development Ride Leader, and former SDBC racer, has graciously offered to lead a skills clinic on the first Saturday of every month open to all.
The skills session will be followed by a 20 to 40 mile ride led by a SDBC Ride Leader. The topics will vary each month tailored to the skill set of those in attendance. Examples of skills to be discussed include:
- Proximity riding including touching/bumping
- Hand positioning
- Tire dusting
- Riding a thrown chain back on
- Effectively training with a heart rate monitor
- Hill interval training
- Isolated-leg exercises
- Properly equipping your bike for flats and roadside repairs
- Dressing for varying temperatures
- Rules of the road
- Steering/cornering/braking
- Effective use of gears
- And other topics brought up by the attendees.
Not all skills will be taught each month. In case of rain, the clinic will be conducted the following week.

Club Night’s A Hit!
|
Great crowd for our Spring Club Night on Monday evening. 103 people showed up including 10 new members who signed up. Lots of pizza, Eppig beer, prizes, and laughs enjoyed by many members, racers, life members, ride leaders, board members, and our all our officers. Thanks to Dave at UC Cyclery for hosting, Sergio & Paul from Spinergy, Mark from The Physical Therapy Effects, and board members Marilyn Detloff, Charlie Sykes, and Jerry Marino for pulling the pieces together! If you ever want to know how our Club’s doing, Club Night is the place to find out!
Pictured is a happy Pat Murray, who won the brand new still-in-the-box Z-lites from Spinergy. Pat is a longtime club member, Cyclist of the Year honoree, Women’s race team members, and member of our Executive Race Committee putting on BLGP. In the background is Debbie Douglas, one of our 10 new members, Linda Webb - Life Member, Cyclist and Ride Leader of the Year honoree, and Volunteer director - who is recruiting volunteers for BLGP, Trish Bazan, 2019 Ride Leader of the Year and another member of our Executive Race Committee, Tony Lowery and Barb Trenchi, both ride leaders. Nice going, Pat!

P.S. We’re planning another big Club event at the Eppig Brewery’s beautiful waterfront Biergarten in Point Loma next month (May). It will be a free event, open to every one who has volunteered time & talent to SDBC in the last year. Details to follow.
