Jim Swigart Is Our Newest Life Member
Please join me in congratulating Jim Swigart as the Club’s newest life member.
The announcement came at our annual Banquet of Champions, where Jim was cited for his many years of racing and volunteer work including leading the Club's masters team, and also serving as treasurer, vice president, and president. Capping his tenure as president, Jim was in charge of our Barrio Logan Grand Prix the first year after Ralph Elliott retired as executive race director. Jim managed the transition beautifully. He continues to support our activities and our Juniors racing program, and is a regular on our Saturday rides.
Well done, Jim! And thank you for your many years of unwavering support!

| A Note From the Training Director |
Monthly Skills
Training Clinic |
|
Lee Driver--SDBC Life Member, longtime Development Ride Leader, and former SDBC racer, has graciously offered to lead a skills clinic one Saturday per month open to all. The skills session will be followed by a 20 to 40 mile ride led by a SDBC Ride Leader. The topics will vary each month tailored to the skill set of those in attendance. Examples of skills to be discussed include:
- Proximity riding including touching/bumping
- Hand positioning
- Tire dusting
- Riding a thrown chain back on
- Effectively training with a heart rate monitor
- Hill interval training
- Isolated-leg exercises
- Properly equipping your bike for flats and roadside repairs
- Dressing for varying temperatures
- Rules of the road
- Steering/cornering/braking
- Effective use of gears
- And other topics brought up by the attendees.
Not all skills will be taught each month. In case of rain, the clinic will be conducted the following week.
The first clinic will be this Saturday February 9th.

The next Fiesta Island Time Trial for 2019 is Sunday, March 10th!

Fiesta Island Time Trials is San Diego's original time trial series since 1998.
The top six finishers in each category are eligible to earn points towards series competition. Prizes and awards will be given to series winners at the last race of the season.
Join all the competitors to see who can ride the quickest 20K, improve the most, or log your best PR. Single riders, tandems, and teams all compete for top honors and island records.
