SDBC Weekly Update

Amazon Smile

Do you shop at Amazon.com? If so, it’s easy for you to help SDBC receive donations from Amazon to SDBC. Just use the “Amazon Smile” charitable process in your account. Amazon Smile funnels a small percentage of their eligible purchase revenue to SDBC if you activate Amazon Smile in your account and choose “San Diego Bicycle Club” as the beneficiary nonprofit.

Instead of logging in through "amazon.com" you log-in through “smile.amazon.com.” Very easy to use. It is EXACTLY the same shopping experience. Nothing changes except SDBC receives contributions from Amazon.

Highlights In this Issue - December 27th, 2018

As the year ends our title sponsor is changing from Emerald Textiles to Spinergy and our kit colors are fading from green to red. SDBC would like your help to express our appreciation to Emerald Textiles for the generous support provided over the last several years. So, as you are riding on Saturdays and you encounter Tom Gildred, please take a moment to thank him! Without the support provided by our title sponsor, and all of our other sponsors, we would not be able to maintain the racing teams and the events & activities for the SDBC members would not be possible. So again, thanks to Emerald Textiles and all of the 2018 sponsors for their support.

Select a link from above or on the left to see what else is happening in the weeks ahead.

Be sure to check our website and social media pages for more information.

A Note From The Bike Coalition Liaison

San Diego Bicycle ClubSDCBC Logo

This new video, funded by Orange County Bicycle Coalition and created by the ABEA (American Bicycle Education Association), does a great job breaking down and explaining California’s convoluted CVC 21202, the law that supposedly requires cyclist to keep to the right.

When you have eight minutes, please check it out. The link takes you to a page that gives you access to the California Freedom (to use the full lane) Card as well as the video.

New Name for Our 2019 Racing Teams

We’re changing the name of our race teams.  Currently the teams race under the name, “SDBC/Emerald Textiles p/b UC Cyclery” (p/b means “presented by”).

Spinergy is our new Title Sponsor, which means our 2019 racing teams need a new name.  And it’s..."SDBC Powered by Spinergy p/b UC Cyclery”.  “Powered by Spinergy" was the big favorite at the recent Club Night, and is the preferred wording by Spinergy.  The new name has the approval of USAC, and the unanimous endorsement of the Club’s Executive Committee.  The USAC website has been updated.

This is the name all USAC licensed racers should be using on their 2019 licenses and on race registrations.

Racers:  Welcome to “SDBC Powered by Spinergy p/b UC Cyclery”!

Size: M/L (see size guide in pictures)

My Input: This bike was a confidence builder as I worked up to A rides.  The power transfer is fantastic, and the way it slips through the air is very noticeable.  It's in fantastic shape, probably 1300-1500 miles on it and I challenge you to come find a flaw on this baby.
Giant Catalog Copy: Proven through 3rd party wind tunnel tests to be more aerodynamic from every yaw angle tested when compared to other leading aero road bikes, Propel Advanced SL sets a new standard for speed.  The Advanced SL-grade composite frame is engineered with AeroSystem Shaping Technology, which saves 12-36 seconds over a distance of 40km at a speed of 40 kph compared to key aero bike competitors - with zero compromises in weight or stiffness and technologies including the SpeedControl SL brake system, integrated seatmast and internal cable routing.  The result is clear: Propel Advanced SL is faster from every angle.

No wheels are included with this sale.

$1750.00 takes the whole enchilada.
