Annual SDBC Borrego Springs Ride and Camp |
Borrego Ride and Camp October 27-28
|
41 riders and campers gathered at the Borrego Palm Canyon Campground for the annual SDBC event. 18 arrived by bike, 23 by car. This is the first time drivers outnumbered riders.
I think riders have figured out they can still get dinner, with freshly baked, warm, pineapple upside down cake whether they ride from San Diego or not. There were a few new faces in the group this year.
Despite the heat, riders all had a good time. Some chose the dirt road of Black Canyon as an alternate route, meaning they got to ride into Borrego via Montezuma Valley Road. That same group chose another alternate Sunday, giving them a few extra miles and another 1,000 feet of climbing. (13,100 feet in 2 days.)
The sag drivers, and any of the 18 not making the return trip, had a great 30 mile meander around the valley Sunday morning before heading home.
Thanks to all the participants for pitching in to get dinner on the table, breakfast out, and camp cleaned up and cars loaded. Thanks to sag drivers for hauling all the gear.

A Note From The Bike Coalition Liaison |
- If you're ever nervous in traffic (and who isn't?) you can almost certainly benefit from taking a step back and thinking about traffic cycling dynamics and safety. The CyclingSavvy program is the best and my friends there now offer FREE membership which includes access to their Essentials course. Please, check out their totally revamped website, and let me know what you think!

- Coalition Board of directors elections are coming. All Coalition members can vote, which means all SDBC members can vote. Watch your email Inbox for the electronic ballot.
- This is the first serious article I've ever seen about my favorite cycling topic - the legality and safety of bicyclists using the full lane - in any prominent general media. Forbes! Please read.
