SDBC Weekly Update

Amazon Smile

Do you shop at Amazon.com? If so, it’s easy for you to help SDBC receive donations from Amazon to SDBC. Just use the “Amazon Smile” charitable process in your account. Amazon Smile funnels a small percentage of their eligible purchase revenue to SDBC if you activate Amazon Smile in your account and choose “San Diego Bicycle Club” as the beneficiary nonprofit.

Instead of logging in through "amazon.com" you log-in through “smile.amazon.com.”  Very easy to use. It is EXACTLY the same shopping experience.  Nothing changes except SDBC receives contributions from Amazon.

Have you Moved in the last year?

2018 SDBC Sponsors

We have a couple of new sponsors this year - Liquid Solana Beach, our Saturday ride coffeee stop (AKA Solana Beach Coffee Company) and ROKA a perfomance design company that designs and sells performance eyewear, apparel & equipment.

Emerald Textiles will continue as our title sponsor, UC Cyclery is continuing as our official bike club and sponsor of the men's and women's Cat 1/2 teams, and all of our sponsors that supported us last year will continue to support us this year.

Please support our sponsors. Without them SDBC would not be able to maintain the racing teams and other activities that we have all enjoyed. Visit the sponsors page on the SDBC web site to view more information about each of our sponsors or click the logos to go the specific sponsor's web site.

Interested in advertising with us? Please email our Sponsorship Director for details.

The deadline for Weekly Update submissions is Noon on Wednesday. Updates are published on Thursdays. Email submissions to weekly@sdbc.org Submissions can include anything from photos to race reports and results, etc.

Classifieds for bikes and cycling related gear can be submitted by any SDBC member. Your add will run for three weeks. In the event you have not sold your items at the end of three weeks you can re-submit the ad. Email your classified submissions to weekly@sdbc.org. Please provide any photos in the original size if possible.

If you are unable to view the Weekly Email Update correctly, you can view an archived copy here. All corrections are also posted to the online version as well.

A Note From The Bike Coalition Liaison

PENDLETON ACCESS REGISTRATION

It's a new year so if you plan to ride on the base, it's time to renew: http://www.pendleton.marines.mil/About/Base-Information/Base-Access/

PENDLETON: RIDE SINGLE-FILE OR ALL CYCLISTS MAY LOSE ACCESS
Camp Pendleton has asked Caltrans District 11 to remind all local bicycling organizations about the single-file rule on base. They say that if side-by-side riding continues, "cyclists may be pushed back onto I-5".

I responded that their signs at base entrances explaining the rules explicitly allow two-abreast riding, and Udo Heinz was riding single file at the road edge with his buddies when they were hit by a bus and Udo was killed. No reply to that, but in the mean time I wouldn't push anything there.  It's their base and they can ban all cyclists for any reason, justified or not, so let's not give them one.

Bottega Americano Gold Cards

SDBC Logo
Get 50% Off
Your Total Bill at Bottega Americano

As an SDBC member you already get 10% off your bill every time you dine at the incredible Bottega Americano - just tell them you’re an SDBC member. The restaurant is where we held last year's Club banquet, and is known for its creative, fresh Italian-inspired cuisine. It also features a full service bar and great wines.

But there’s a way you can get 50% off every time. Owner and fellow cyclist Giuseppe Ciuffa has given the Club “Gold Cards.” Present the card and save 50% off your entire bill when you and a second person use the card. Save 25% off your bill with a group of three or four people. These discounts apply to everything: all menu items, your wine and bar charges, and corkage fees, if you bring your own wine. These cards do not have expiration dates on them.

We have five cards, and we’ve put a $95 value on each one. If you’re interested in buying one, please contact Marilyn Detloff at membership@sdbc.org. She can process your credit card information and mail the card to you, or make arrangements for pick-up at the Saturday ride.

First-come, first-served. When they’re gone, they’re gone.

Why are we selling the cards, you ask? The cards are Club assets, for the benefit of all members. We could give them away, but to members who don’t like Italian food or live far from the restaurant, the card has no value, no benefit. So if we gave them as raffle prizes, the winners might be people who have no use for them. But if we sell them, the funds can be used to support SDBC and its programs, benefitting all members, while getting the cards into the hands of people who value them
