27th Annual Christmas Day Orphan Ride |
Ride Report & Photos
|
Sunday December 25th
No rain or wind, just some healthy San Diego sunshine on this beautiful morning.
Thirty-eight orphans pedaled around San Diego Bay and crossed the bay on the ferry.
A brief stop at the bicycle sculptures on Bay Boulevard found some riders trading up!
A steady holiday pace allowed the group to stay together throughout the ride.
The orphans enjoyed a short stay at the Coronado Ferry Landing and assembled for a quick photo before boarding the Cabrillo.
Crossing the bay on the Cabrillo is like a mini harbor cruise as the ferry passes the ships moored at North Island and at the B Street pier.
After disembarking from the ferry, the riders rolled by Seaport Village and on to Petco Park where they had another brief stop as Ralph pointed out how the "beach" has been scaled down to a small strip of sand. A little zag-zag and the orphans headed up Island Avenue and back to Ralph's.
Thanks to Ralph for hosting this event and to all the "orphans" that showed up to ride along.

Bottega Americano Gold Cards |
Get 50% Off
Your Total Bill at Bottega Americano
As an SDBC member you already get 10% off your bill every time you dine at the incredible Bottega Americano - just tell them you’re an SDBC member. The restaurant is where we held last year's Club banquet, and is known for its creative, fresh Italian-inspired cuisine. It also features a full service bar and great wines.
But there’s a way you can get 50% off every time. Owner and fellow cyclist Giuseppe Ciuffa has given the Club “Gold Cards.” Present the card and save 50% off your entire bill when you and a second person use the card. Save 25% off your bill with a group of three or four people. These discounts apply to everything: all menu items, your wine and bar charges, and corkage fees, if you bring your own wine. These cards do not have expiration dates on them.
We have five cards, and we’ve put a $95 value on each one. If you’re interested in buying one, please contact Marilyn Detloff at membership@sdbc.org. She can process your credit card information and mail the card to you, or make arrangements for pick-up at the Saturday ride.
First-come, first-served. When they’re gone, they’re gone.
Why are we selling the cards, you ask? The cards are Club assets, for the benefit of all members. We could give them away, but to members who don’t like Italian food or live far from the restaurant, the card has no value, no benefit. So if we gave them as raffle prizes, the winners might be people who have no use for them. But if we sell them, the funds can be used to support SDBC and its programs, benefitting all members, while getting the cards into the hands of people who value them |
