SDBC Sunday Ride, 6/7 |
Julian via Kitchen Creek (postponed from 2 weeks ago)
|
* See note at the bottom for a standardized route leaving from UC Cyclery if unable to attend. I will appreciate if someone oversees the ride and notifies me via email with the # of riders, any new riders, and how it went. A group pic at the top of Highland Dr is always nice.
*** We ROLL at 8:30 ***
74 miles with 7,400’ climbing with regrouping, stunning scenery. This will be a challenging yet very enjoyable ride, with longer climbs & descents and little traffic. Great century ride training!
Leaves Major’s Diner in Pine Valley (28870 Old Hwy 80) at 8:30 (park either in the back or one door W at the Post Office lot)
Google Map - Directions to Major’s by car from I-805 & I-8: 37 minutes, adjust accordingly.
Led by SDBC ride leader, a beautiful ride up Kitchen Creek (no cars), then a rest stop at Laguna Mt. Lodge, continuing on to Julian for a piece of their famous pie, and back via Engineers Rd. Like the Beatles, you kon’t beat it!
Bring 2 bottles of fluid, and be ready to roll at 8:30. A group pic will be taken and sent to you afterwards with ride write-up.
Route available on MapMyRide
We are looking forward to seeing you.
Michael Pelkey
SDBC Sunday Ride Leader

* For those of you that are not able to come along on the above ride but would still like to enjoy a ride leaving from UC Cyclery beginning at 8:30, see route below. This is the standard SDBC Saturday D2 route. Enjoy a challenging 38 mile ride into Rancho Santa Fe with a stop at Java Depot in Solana Beach by 11:00. You should be back to UCC by noon latest. Note: There may or may not be an SDBC ride leader in attendance.

A Note From The Bike Coalition Liaison |
Remember, SDBC membership includes membership in the San Diego County Bike Coalition which includes a number of benefits. See the new coalition website at http://sdbikecoalition.org.
Bike The Bay is Sunday, August 23rd: http://bikethebay.net/
Safety Tip of the Week
When you're using the full lane because it's too narrow for safe side-by-side sharing, it's helpful to just glance back and nod at anyone briefly stuck behind you. That way they know you're not oblivious to their presence, and makes it less likely that they'll get angry and honk, or worse. Nobody likes to feel ignored, and a friendly acknowledgment can go a long way towards nipping road rage in the bud.

SDBC Tandem Ride |
SDBC 5/30 Tandem Ride a Great Success!
On 5/30, SDBC hosted its 2nd Tandem Ride, led by Serge Issakov and Pat Murray, which consisted of 14 tandems, plus 3 singles for a total of 31 riders. Other SDBC member teams included Allen Rider/Renee Robinson and Tony & Carol Lowery. Support on singles was provided by Adina Conwell, Mike McLaughlin, and Marilyn Detloff. Most of the other teams were from North County and Orange County, even one tandem from San Diego's Blind Stokers Club. As with all SDBC rides, all riders are welcomed.
The 35 mile route, left UCC at 8:40 and headed on a gradually climbing route to the east along the 56 path, then north before heading down three witches and on into Rancho Santa Fe and to Java Depot.
Fun & safety were in the forefront and we look forward to our next tandem ride together.
A big thanks to Pat Murray for organizing; to Tony, Mike and Marilyn for sweeping; and especially Adina, who rode between the front and back countless times to enable communication, and monitored safety at intersections. Much appreciated!

Hope to see you all & more next time. Please check the Weekly Update for information for our next tandem event.
