SDBC member Captain of top fund raising team at Tour de Cure Temecula

On Sunday, September 14, SDBC's Mike Readey, Captain of Team Northrop Grumman, rode the Tour De Cure in Temecula and his team raised $23,200 for the American Diabetes Association. Mike, a diabetic since childhood, is also a "Champion" fundraiser with $4,600 in donations and is usually seen riding with SDBC's B or D1 Ride on Saturday as well as with the SDBC Sunday Ride on occasion. UC Cyclery, SDBC's bike shop sponsor, also participated as a Bronze Sponsor, providing Ride Marshals, bicycles, and other prizes for this worthy event, which raised a grand total of $375,000 this year to cure diabetes.

Visit Juan Carlos

Many SDBC club members have recently visited Juan Carlos Viñolo. He really enjoys visits from cyclists in particular, so if you can, go say hello to him! He will be at Sharp Memorial Rehabilitation Center until mid-November. The best time to visit is between 3 and 6 pm. He works pretty hard during the daytime with the therapists preparing him for independent living. For details and location map go to http://sdbc.org/blog-club/

From Serge Issakov:
"Michael Pelkey and I went to visit Juan Carlos today. I was very impressed with his demeanor and character. I can only imagine what he is going through, but can tell you he is dealing with it effectively. He was out on the patio and independently mobile in an electric wheel chair. He should be home in about 2 months. He does plan to go back to his job and looks forward to cycling again on a handcycle. JC welcomes visits. I encourage you to go."
