18th annual Barrio Logan Grand Prix |
Barrio Logan Grand Prix
May 3rd, 2014
Volunteers Needed |
The Bario Logan Grand Prix is a month away! Your help is needed. It takes many hands to make this race happen. There are volunteer opportunities all day long. Let's make this another great year. Positions are available in the areas of registration, course set-up and tear-down, course marshalling, hospitality, expo area, equipment truck driver, etc.
The continuous action going on around you makes volunteering more like fun than work. SDBC needs YOU! You can sign up for one or more of the many available jobs online. No registration or account is necessary and your e-mail address will not be shared with anyone. Click here for the Barrio Logan Grand Prix Volunteer Signup.
If you have any questions about what a job is, contact Linda at volunteer@sdbc.org.
With only one month to go it's time for all you racers to get registered; all categories are "wide open". Come race at one of Southern California's "Classic Old School
Downtown Figure 8 Criterium Courses!" Click here for online registration.
If you have any leads on someone or a business who you believe might like to sponsor the race please give Ralph a call. Everyone loves a race with lots of “primes”, SDBC has over 300 members, if each member acquired just one prime, this years Barrio Logan Grand Prix could give out 300 prime prizes!!! Primes can be just about anything: gift certificates, dinners, clothing, services, bike parts, auto parts, gift cards, cash… let’s get creative!
So if you have any ideas on sponsorship please call Ralph (619-239-4321) or you can send an email to Ralph@mgeracing.com
See ya at the races!

Tour de Cure Volunteers Needed |
UC Cyclery is sponsoring the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure on May 17th. They need a course marshal coordinator and course marshals. A course marshal will ride the route, encourage the participants and encourage safe riding practices during the event. The coordinator's job is simple and easy. Talk to the American Diabetes Association (we will give you the contact info) then ask for volunteers at the Saturday rides, in the weekly update, or other riding buddies. On the day of the ride, show up with the volunteers and enjoy the ride.
UC Cyclery is one of SDBC's major sponsors and we would very much like as many members as possible to help them with this event. There is no cost to be a course marshall, it's just a chance to give back and have some fun.
To volunteer for the coordinator or a course marshal contact Linda at volunteer@sdbc.org |

The Pactimo store is open. To access the Team Store from the club web site, click on Members, then SDBC Clothing, and follow the directions on the page. If this is the first time you have ordered clothing from Pactimo, you will need to create your personal account.
Please be sure of your sizing. Pactimo and SDBC are NOT responsible if you order the wrong size. Use the following link to access the Pactimo Custom Clothing sizing chart.
A Note On Pricing
The clothing committee worked very hard in negotiating prices with Pactimo. Despite almost across-the-board price increases on garments, we're keeping the prices of many popular items the same as last year. In cases where we have raised prices, we have kept the increase as small as possible.

Join us April 20th for The Gordy Shields Memorial Ride
A ride in honor of cycling advocate Gordy Shields.
April 20th is the date past city council woman, Donna Frye, declared as "Gordy Shields Day" in honor of all his work on the Bayshore Bikeway and resurfacing of Fiesta Island Perimeter Rd. It is also the anniversary of his birthday since his passing last June 2013. It is also EASTER SUNDAY.
To remember his advocacy for our cycling community we are planning a ride from Grossmont College to Fiesta Island and back with a stop at Rubio's on Mission Gorge for refueling.
The route is about 50 miles. Arrive at 7:45 AM and be ready to roll at 8 AM. We will depart promptly at 8 AM from the Flagpole turnabout in front of Grossmont College. (Address: 8800 Grossmont College Dr. El Cajon 92020 - LOTS OF FREE PARKING ON CAMPUS - Don't worry about getting a ticket!) Traveling on a safe route between the San Diego River and Fashion Valley Road, we plan to roll onto Fiesta Island about 9:30. The lunch stop should take place at approximately 11-11:30 AM and we will plan on being back to the college at around 12:30-1 PM. This ride is in no way associated with Grossmont College or employees. It is a fun ride at a conversational pace. We will help with issues as they may arise, but ask that you arrive with a mechanically sound bicycle and your own equipment to service any issues that could come up.

Bikes for Birthdays
Remember the time you received your first bike? Most of us do. It was an exciting moment that allowed us to accomplish not only the satisfaction of riding a bike on our own, but also the freedom to explore the world around us and create our own adventures. Look back for a minute on the miles of smiles, friends and unforgettable experiences that all began with that moment. What an impact it sure had on your life.
What if we could give that gift to an unsuspecting child, a child facing adversity and major challenges in their life? What if we could give them a gift - in addition to a new bike - of unconditional love? A message that no matter what, there are people in this world, in your own community, who are here to help and support you. Imagine the journey that this might set them on....
We have launched a new venture, a non-profit called Bikes for Birthdays, where we can give the opportunity to change the course of a child's life by simply making a small donation. Please take a minute to check out our website and watch the short video. Once each child is funded, we go out and buy them a bike and some basic equipment. The bike is delivered on their birthday, with a special message in a card "signed" by all of those who contributed. Please note this is our initial goal...we are expecting to do much more with this program in the future as we are sure it will be successful and put a smile on many faces.
Thank you for taking the time to check out our program.

For Sale: Ay-up Complete Lighting System
I am selling my Ay-Up complete lighting system because I got a new kit for a gift. I used these lights for night MTB rides. They provide plenty of light to have a wonderful night ride. The light is bright and clear. You can read about Ay-Up lights here: http://www.ayup-lights.com/
These lights are also very good for road riding commuters. The kit has tons of stuff. 3 batteries for all occasions, chargers (including car), mounts and etc. The kits retail for $380+shipping brand new. The batteries last a long time. I've never had my lights run out of juice on a night ride. $150 is the price so don't send me messages with other offers. The lights are guaranteed for life and practically indestructible.
